Board Certification

With expanding reality shows like Dr. 90210, information regarding plastic surgery is becoming more and more accessible. On Dr. 90210, Dr Diamond and Dr. Li usually present themselves professionally to patients as board-certified plastic surgeons, whereas Dr. Rey usually likes to sweet talk the patient and call them " sweetheart". Although he's the star of the "show", there has been some controversy about his practice since he is not board-certified in plastic surgery (Source: New York Times). How important is board certification ? Well, board certification is an optional, voluntary process. Certification ensures that the doctor has been rigorously tested against his or her peers to assess his or her knowledge, skills, and experience in a specialty, and is deemed qualified to provide quality patient care in that specialty. There are two levels of certification through 24 specialty medical boards � doctors can be certified in 36 general medical specialties and in an additional 88 subspecialty fields. Most certifications must be renewed after six to 10 years, depending on the specialty (Source: American Medical Association). To find out if a plastic surgeon is board-certified is quiet simple. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) has a "Find-A-Surgeon" link that will lead you only to members of this prestigous society in a given geopgraphic area. Being board certified in plastic surgery is a criterion for entry in to this society. Also, searching the American Board of Plastic Surgery website (www.abplsurg.org) or the American Board of Medical Specialties site will yield this information. Now, the verdict is still out as to whether she has undergone a rhinopolasty procedure. By the looks of these pictures, the bridge of her nose appears narrower and her tip is less bulbous. She has not admitted to having her nose surgically altered and actually was upset by an article in US Weekly Magazine that claimed she was one of Hollywood's many actresses to undergo cosmetic surgery. It could be the make-up, lighting and photography.....but I guess we'll never know!

Schwarzenegger Vetoes "Donda West" Cosmetic Surgery Law

Gov. Arnold Schwarzengger killed legislation intended to reduce the risk of cosmetic surgery Sunday, citing the state's historic budget delay as reason for his gubernatorial veto.

"Given the delay, I am only signing bills that are the highest priority for California," Schwarzengger wrote in his veto message for AB 2968, by Assm. Wilmer Amina Carter, D-Rialto. He then added, "This bill does not meet that standard and I cannot sign it at this time".

Called the "Donda West Law," the bill was named after singer Kanye West's mother, who died after undergoing elective breast reduction and tummy tuck last November. The measure would have required patients to undergo a physical examination and therefore medical clearance prior to elective, cosmetic surgery to help avoid complications (normally, prudent surgeons would ensure that this happens anyway without being forced by state legislation).

Let's hope once the budget and tanking economy are addressed he will pay more attention to it, and perhaps board certification and credentialing will be put on the table as issues in the national arena on this important subject.

Has former Spice Girl gone under the knife again?

The world knows Victoria Beckham, formerly known as Posh Spice, as the beautiful, perfect wife of soccer star and hottie, David Beckham. With her pressed lips and soccer ball ta ta's, it seems as if Mrs. Beckham has gone under the knife for a second rhinoplasty. As noted in makemeheal.com the star seems to have also changed her hair from a cute blonde bob that had millions of women running to their hair dresser to have "victoria Beckam's cut" to now a dark fierce pixie cut.
It is speculated that Mrs. Beckham changed her hair so drastically to take away emphasis on her newly shaped nose. "Supporters of the nose tweak theory point that until she revealed her new hair do, Posh wasn�t seen out and about, possibly to give her the chance to recover from surgery."
Whatever it may be, Posh looks great, but I don't think she needs any more plastic surgery. If you've got it, flaunt it!

Heidi Klum au Natural?

Rumors have been going around that supermodel Heidi Klum, 35, has had breast augmentation. By the looks of these before and after pictures the rumors may be true. Before, Klum was a much smaller cup size-now she�s busting out of her bikini top. Since Heidi Klum has had children it is only natural for breasts to get bigger with breastfeeding and lactation. However, having children does not enlarge and lift your breasts naturally for a sustained period of time. In the past, Heidi Klum has not only denied having plastic surgery but has also vowed to never get it! She has stated that she�d rather look like a �dinosaur� than have plastic surgery. �I see that I�ve aged already. When I look at pictures now and when I see old pictures of me, of course I see I have aged. I don�t think I would have plastic surgery. I�ll be the only dinosaur in town, the only one that can actually move her forehead!� She blasted plastic surgery this past July by saying, �There�s something odd when you�re 35 or 40 and ironed to the max. You change with time, and it�s fine. Everywhere there are these stand-up cards saying, �Have a little silicone while you get your roots done.� I want to be the opposite of that.� There has been no proof as to whether Klum has been under the knife, but certain pictures do show quite an increase in bust size. Make Me Heal has previously commented about Heidi Klum�s implants saying that they boosted her from a B-cup to a C-cup.

Heidi was also rumored to have had a little lipo or mini-tuck to her abdomen, but I'll bet she just worked out a bunch after having children. At the age of 35 and after having those cute kids, I'd say Heidi Klum looks stunning for her age-but whether it's because of plastic surgery or not?...you decide.

PCD: Pussy Cat Dolls...but what does the P really stand for?

Could the "P" stand for plastic? Though there have been no confirmed reports, could these smoking hot singers have gone under the knife? There is a possibility that the lead singer Nicole Scherzinger has undergone a breast augmentation. The dolls may have had soft tissue fillers injected to their lips, to give them their full appearance. Also, despite their new advertisement with Bally Total Fitness, these pussycats may have had some lipoplasty to help sculpt their bodies. No matter how they did it, the Pussycat Dolls look good just in time for their latest CD release "Doll Domination". If they're keeping any secrets from us, they are sure doing a fantastic job!

Ugly Betty Star Does Botox and Loving it!

Although Vanessa Williams did not win an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, she still looked like a winner! On the hit ABC show Ugly Betty, Ms. Williams plays a diva fashionista Wilhelmina Slater, fed up with trying to earn the job of editor the hard way.... so she decided to to marry the the owner of Mode magazine to control the magazine from the inside (Source: ABC.go.com). Not only is she a go-getter in the show but also in real life. She was the first African American to be crowned Miss America and decades later she still looks absolutely stunning and she might owe it all to Botox. The 45 year-old actress is quoted as saying "I certainly do Botox, which I definitely think that almost every woman that I know has imbibed ... And it's a miracle drug � no cutting, nothing � and I love it" she admitted on The Barbara Walters Special (Source Us Magazine). She has a forehead as smooth as a baby's bottom but she still has a few crow's feet around her eyes. She still retains some facial expression which is a sign that she does not over Botox. She also has impeccable skin, it may be due to products such as ProActiv ( she's a spokesperson for the product) or maybe she has done some laser treatments or facials. Well whatever the case she is a good example that a good beauty regimen and a some cosmetic injections can balance each other quite nicely.

What's Love Got To Do With It?!

Tina Turner, 68, is releasing a new hits album and her tour starts October 1st! She looks amazing! Back from retirement, she performed with Beyonce at the Grammys and is looking great as she takes the stage. In an article in People magazine this week she is quoted saying, when asked about how she keeps in shape, "I have no secret - I have good genes. But I get a lot of sleep and eat healthy." She credits her toned legs and body to swimming, hiking and ten hours a day of dancing. I think she also has a great plastic surgeon who helps her look young and refreshed! In a 2005 interview on 60 Minutes, Tina admits to undergoing reconstructive surgery to her nose to repair damage caused by her abusive ex-husband. Also, in an article from 1996, Tina speaks about her experiences with plastic surgery. She admits to having her breasts done after giving birth to her second son, "to put them back where they were."

Whatever she is doing, she should keep it up!

Brigitte Nielsen's Complete Body Makeover

Brigitte Nielsen, the ex-wife of Sylvester Stallone and ex-reality-tv-girlfriend of Flavor Flav underwent plastic surgery on German TV live. This 44 year old Danish actress, underwent the surgery sometime last month. Her surgery was broadcast uncensored on �From Old to New: Brigitte Nielson in the Celebrity Clinic.� She underwent liposuction on her thighs, Botox treatments, breast lift, and likely a facelift after leaving rehab for alcoholism last year. In the past, she has had large implants put in. About twenty years ago, Brigitte appeared on the cover of Playboy and she hopes to make it into another issue with her new body makeover in the coming months.
Personally, I think Brigitte may have aged a little early in life, which could be due to the fact that she may have been exposed to too much sun, stress, cocktails, or even smoking. However, as Brigitte sports her new look I must say that she's definitely looking better than before. Hey, we'll see if she ends up on an episode with her German plastic surgeon meeting Flavor Flav!

Jennifer Lopez- Actress, Singer, Fashion Designer...Athlete!

Jennifer Lopez can now add triathlon athlete to her long resume that includes - actress, singer, fashion designer, and mother. She completed the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on Sunday in two hours , 23 mins and 38.8 secs according to FoxNews.com. Its hard to imagine that she gave birth to twins, Emme and Max on February 22 of this year! Not only did she raise $125,000 for the Pediatric Cancer Research Program at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, she still had the energy to fly back to New York to give her hubby, Marc Anthony a surprise 40th birthday party. She looks great and she truly is a jack of all trades.

A few months ago Makemeheal.com reported that Ms. Lopez has undergone a mommy makeover which typically includes a tummy tuck to get rid of excess skin and fat and to tighten the abdominal muscles, liposuction, and a breast lift with or without breast augmentation. In a picture taken back in July 2008 showed JLo in a two piece bikini, with a body normal for a woman who has recently given birth. A recent picture of her at the triathlon reveals a much toned up body, it may due to the intensive training she underwent in preparation for the event. We've looked at her pictures and we think that she may not have gotten any surgical procedures since motherhood.....just good old sweat and tears!

Brooke Hogan's latest addition

Looks as though Brooke Hogan, reality star and daughter of famous wrestling champion Hulk Hogan is enjoying her new assets as she has been seen prancing around her home town of Miami, Florida in tiny bikinis and practically busting out of barely-there outfits.
From pictures seen on makemeheal.com it seems as this budding beauty has added on. "Perhaps her �girls� were feeling neglectful, singing along with her chart topping single, �What about us?� Brooke looks like she went up to either a full C or D cup with these implants, a little big but I guess it offsets her 6 foot tall stature

According to some sources like makemeheal.com, recent photos of Brooke have shown a scar in her armpit, suggesting that she had her implants inserted through the armpit. With this technique, a small one-inch incision is made in a discrete fold inside the armpit. Typically, the implant is placed partially under the pectoralis major muscle of the chest, which helps the implant look and feel more natural. The only question that remains is whether Brooke has gone for the now approved silicone implants or for saline implants. It's hard to tell from the photos whether she has saline or silicone implants, but since their FDA approval we have seen a spike in women wanting silicones because they look and feel more natural.

I�m happy for her, she seems to have gone to a surgeon who knew what he/she was doing, rather then hearing another sob story of a celebrity plastic surgery case gone wrong. Way to go Brooke!

Our Thoughts and Prayers for the Victims of Hurricane Ike

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Galveston Island. As a medical student and resident in training in general and plastic surgery, I lived there for nine years of my life (see my little niece sitting on the beach along the Seawall about seven years ago!). I have never seen a storm of this size and magnitude of Hurricane Ike hit the island and wish them all the best in their restoration efforts. To give to the UTMB relief fund, please click here. The folks of Galveston are strong and resilient, and the University of Texas Medical Branch will endure. Although Galveston was the hardest hit area, Houstonians and many others along the Gulf Coast have been affected as well. Even nursesarah is stuck in Mexico right now because the Houston airport shut down. We wish for the safety and health of all Texans as the search and rescue efforts continue.

Rihanna's Future: Possible Breast Augmentation?

The 20-year old singer Rihanna has been rumored
to have gone under the knife, having gotten a
rhinoplasty and breast implants. Looking at pictures
from before she may have gone under the knife, her
nose does look wider. Now her nose looks well defined,thinner, and more projected. Her nose
could also look a lot different from having great make-up skills.
As far as breast implants, I do not think she has had breast augmentation, if anything she has been
in the spotlight and has always used make-up well and worn a padded push-up bra. In 2007,
Rihanna said,
       �I�m terrified of going under the knife. Because of the pain, the complications - not to mention
the fact that it�s utterly unauthentic. �If my t*ts aren�t feeling big one day, too bad. I�ll get a good bra.�
I like my body and I work out as hard as I can to make it as perfect as possible. But at the end of the day
there�s always people who criticize your weight, your hairstyle and what you�re wearing. I just get on with it.�

This past weekend, Rihanna went on stage as a performer at the VMA�s, losing to Britney Spears for best
female video. We were all surprised to hear that she has been doing some reconsideration for plastic surgery.
Rihanna has stated that she has not had any plastic surgery up to this point in time, however she is considering
it for the future, mainly when it comes to her breasts. Rihanna said,� �If my breasts started to drop, I might not
like that. But for the next 20-25 years I�m going to stay as natural as possible.�

   The website Makemeheal.com did conclude that
Rihanna�s skin tone has in fact slightly changed, possibly
due to the use of bleaching and skin lightening cosmetics 
or even better make-up that brightens and lightens up
her skin.  Rihanna is staying as natural as long as she possibly

What Turned Norma Jeane Into Marilyn?

Most people who know me, learn very quickly of my absolute admiration for Marilyn Monroe's beauty. I couldn't resist the urge to write about the blonde starlet after recently reading an article in the 25th anniversary issue of Vanity Fair. Though it has been more than twenty-six years since her untimely death, a collection of never-before-seen possessions has revealed more about Monroe's fascinating life. Though she is both stunning and captivating, Norma Jeane Baker's evolution into the blonde bombshell known as Marilyn Monroe, may have been catalyzed by plastic surgery. It is rumored by MakeMeHeal, that upon signing a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox, the rising star underwent a rhinoplasty to lessen the appearance of her bulbous nose, and to refine the tip. She may have also had a procedure done to refine her chin, and may have undergone a blepharoplasty, or eye lift. Even in 1946 celebrities were willing to undergo surgery (although things were much more hush-hush then given the stigma attached to cosmetic surgery); the seemingly-flawless results help boosted Monroe's career. No matter what it took, there is no question that Marilyn Monroe skyrocketed into a pop culture icon, who will never be forgotten.

2008 FASHION ROCKS CONCERT

The stars have descended upon NYC as Fashion Week 2008 continues this week. Fashion Week would not be complete without its annual Fashion Rocks Concert celebrating the relationship between music and fashion at Radio City Music Hall in New York held on Sept.05, 2008.

Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas was featured as one of the performers. According to Make Me Heal, Fergie is rumored to have undergone various procedures, although the "Glamorous Life" singer has denied ever going under the knife. She looks like she has had rhinoplasty, more specifically osteotomies of the nasal bones to narrow her nose, as well as tip refinement. In this procedure, the surgeon breaks the bones and reshapes the bones into the form desired. It also appears she has had a brow lift in which the surgeon makes several small incisions behind the hairline and often uses an endoscope to to reposition, alter, or remove the tissue and muscle beneath the skin. Her high and arched brows are a dead giveaway.

Another star who is no stranger to plastic surgery also present at the concert was Mariah Carey. Stars Plastic Surgery speculates that Mrs. Cannon has had submuscular breast augmentation therefore she has a natural slope. She has also been rumored to have a rhinoplasty, it looks like her surgeon may have refined and rotated her nose. Throughout the years she aged flawlessly, it may be due to health and fitness plans. She may have also had help from injections such as Botox to keep her forehead free of wrinkles and maybe even some Juvederm injections to fill in her nasolabial folds.

Although the stage may have exploded with silicone and injections, Fashion Rocks will be sure to bring together world-renowned performers known more for their talent than what they've been under the knife for. Sounds like fun!

VMA 2008

The MTV Video Music Awards 2008 were held last night in Los Angeles. How about Britney Spears? She seems to be on the comeback trail. She did not perform, but she opened the show and took home several Moonmen for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year. Compared to last year, she looks great!




Now, what about Christina Aguilera? She has undergone some drastic changes in the past few years. She looks great for having a baby 9 months ago. She wore a low-cut black dress that accentuated her breasts, which are most likely augmented. In an article on www.stars-plastic-surgery.com, it is rumored that she has undergone breast augmentation and a rhinoplasty. She performed at the show, singing "Genie in a Bottle" and "Keeps Getting Better." I think she was obviously lip-syncing in her tight black outfit.





Another star who has been rumored to have had breast implants is Lindsay Lohan. She looked pretty at last night's show wearing a long-sleeved purple dress. Although she has never admitted to having plastic surgery, an article on makemeheal.com, "Lindsay�s razor-thin body is in striking opposition to her voluptuous breasts, suggesting this lack of proportion between her chest and body was achieved by cosmetic surgery."

Shannen Doherty Speaks out about Plastic Surgery Rumors

Shannen Doherty has recently spoken out that she hasn't had any plastic surgery done with the media scrutiny that has followed with her re-introduction on the new 90210 show. In our opinion, these days Shannen doesn't look much older, just a little different (hey, time marches on! ...what do you expect?). One can see this in various photos taken at different angles and lighting at different points in time. This leads one to wonder if either 1) some photos have been retouched or possibly distorted (the Star Magazine cover), as we all know is possible with the photoshop techniques available on most computers today, or 2) she possibly could have undergone some non-permanent, minimally invasive procedures. For example, in some pics her crow's feet appear much more prominent than in other more recent ones even though her face is animating (smiling) the same. If you were to see this in any case or person, it could be attributed to Botox, which selectively and temporarily paralyzes the muscle called the orbicularis oculi that squeezes the eye shut and also causes those stubborn wrinkles emanating from the corner of the eye. Also, nonpermanent fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane that are made of hyaluronic acid could have possibly been injected to plump up her lips or nasolabial folds (laugh lines). I have neither examined nor treated her, but based upon the publicized photos that everyone seems to be talking about, I seriously doubt she has had any plastic surgery done. We don't really consider Botox or fillers "plastic surgery" in the sense of a true operation in the operating room with anesthesia-- these are minimally invasive injections involving a syringe filled with the product and a needle that registered nurses and doctors can deliver with proper training and certification (that being said-- pick your provider wisely!). And of course we are not saying that she's had those done either. But, FYI--in Manhattan, some of these things are just as much a part of maintenance as teeth whitening, brow waxing, and hair highlights.

Some of the unique features of Shannen Doherty's face that make her memorable include the gap between her two central incisors (front teeth), and her facial asymmetry. Pretty much everyone's face is asymmetric when the right side is compared to the left; this is one of Shannon's most distinct, and in our opinion, attractive features. It makes her who she is. Cindy McCain: Has this proclaimed supporter of plastic surgery gone under the knife herself?

Over the last year, but especially in the last week, Cindy McCain has had her face plastered all over television screens and newspaper stands. She looks great for her age; but could it possibly be 100% natural?

After working the the plastic surgery business and learning about our enemy called gravity, Cindy has done something to keep up her appearance, but who really knows she may have just been blessed with some good genes.
According to makemeheal.com others seem to agree with me. "At 54, McCain is in the median age range of being a candidate for a face lift. A face lift is designed to tighten not only the sagging appearance of the face, but of the neck and jowls as well. McCain�s face is tight, the neck is remarkably taut, and her jaw is free of jowling. This may be explained by a mini-face lift, or it could just be that Cindy McCain is aging well. We are more inclined to think that McCain�s pulled look is at the very least the result of too many dermal injectables and potential laser treatments like Fraxel, Thermage, and Active Fx."
Whatever she is doing, has visually improved her image; who will ever really know, but if it makes her happy then I say keep it up!

Oh and by the way, we are happy to see Ms. McCain has devoted time to helping kids with cleft lip and palate (see photo of nursesarah and Dr. Walden on a similar type of medical mission trip).

Breast Augmentation.. as easy as getting a shot?

Instead of going under the knife, dealing with scars and spending thousands of dollars, some women have been getting liquid silicone injections in their face and even breasts. These risky injections are not FDA approved and are considered an off label use of a drug used in opthalmology for retinal tears. The idea of taking the cheaper route to get larger breasts may sound to your liking, but women should be aware of the dangers involved with this procedure. When liquid silicone is injected into the breast area it has the potential to permanently damage tissue and incite scar tissue formation. Let the buyer beware.

Recently, a new procedure in Europe called the �boob jab� uses other artificial fillers to attempt to create the same appearance as getting implants. The procedure involves injections through the armpit with a temporary filler such as Macrolane which leads directly into the breast. This procedure costs thousands of dollars and is not permanent. This procedure could also be dangerous, possibly making it even more difficult for mammographers and to detect breast cancer.

Jocelyn Wildenstein has had silicone injections to her face (chin, lips, and cheeks). Now ask yourself, would you want your breasts to look as interesting as her face? Hmm, I think not. We do want to note that saline and silicone-gel filled breast implants are safe and approved by the FDA for breast augmentation and reconstruction. Right now this is the most reproducible, predictable option for breast enhancement, but injection of autologous fat (your own fat) and even stem cells is on the horizon as a potential viable alternative to traditional breast augmentation with implants.

Is The Material Girl Made of--Material?

Everyone can agree that Madonna takes incredibly good care of her body. We've watched Madonna evolve throughout the years from pop-tart to pop-icon. We've watched as she has mastered yoga, studied kabbalah, and now that she has recently hit the big five-o-- gotten a facelift? There is no question Madonna is looking surprisingly fresh these days, but has Madonna gone under the knife?

Madonna most likely underwent Botox injections, which paralyze the muscles that make wrinkles more pronounced, to remedy the creases throughout her forehead and glabella (space between the eyebrows).

While a fifty-year-old woman is expected to have jowls or an ill-defined jawline, Madonna seems to be one lucky lady. She most likely had the dermal filler Restylane, Juvederm, or Radiesse injected into the nasolabial folds in order to reduce the appearance of laugh-lines. She may have undergone a Thermage treatment to smoothen and tighten her jaw line. Thermage is a minimally invasive procedure which, the Thermage website boasts, "tightens existing collagen and stimulates new collagen growth for skin that looks and feels noticeably smoother and tighter." Perhaps Madonna went the surgical route and had a mini facelift, or "weekender" and a blepharoplasty (or eyelid lift). A mini facelift is less invasive than a traditional one as less lengthy scars and/or endoscopic techniques are used to reposition particular tissues such as those around the jaw and neck. The recovery time is often shorter and Madonna could be well just in time for downward-facing dog, Monday morning. Botox is Abundant in Hollywood!

Now we all know Katy Couric gets her fair share of Botox!







Some have accused Nicole Kidman of having too much Botox. On celebritybodygossip.com Dr. Martin Braun, is quoted saying, "She looks like a bat with too much of an (outer) brow lift. The middle of the brow�s been dropped. She�s crying when she accepts her Oscar, but nothing is moving.�



Simon Cowell admits to having Botox treatments. Simon discusses the vanity of all TV stars in an article in Us Magazine. "To be honest with you, I can't think of one person who is on TV who isn't vain. It's the nature of the beast. If you are on TV then you have a vanity, for sure. Just admit it! Why not?�

Vanessa Williams has also admitted to Barbara Walters in an ABC interview that she receives Botox. She is quoted, "I certainly do Botox, which I definitely think that almost every woman that I know has [done]," she said. "And it's a miracle drug, no cutting, nothing..."


Botox can help reduce wrinkles by relaxing the muscles of the face that create those wrinkles. Common areas treated are the forehead, glabella (or between the eyes) and crow's feet. Botox has been widely tested and used for over 20 years. It is also FDA approved to treat axillary hyperhidrosis, strabismus, blepharospasm and cervical dystonia.

A Brand New 90210.... And a Brand New Face?

For all you 90's babies, 90210 version 2.0 is here! I'm soo looking forward to see the new story line, the new faces and of course TV's first frienemies Kelly and Brenda. I wonder what their roles will be... guidance counselors? boxing instructor? or maybe Botox/injectibles spokesperson.

Hotgossip.com quoted Shannon Doherty as saying �These are my looks, whether you like them or not. They work for me. I have a gap in the middle of my teeth. You know how many people wanted to cover that gap? My parents are like, �Don�t ever do that! That�s what makes you different!� I was raised to have a lot of confidence and believe in myself,� she said. Now I've seen recent photos of her and she doesn't look like she went running to the Botox fairy once the CW signed her on to do the new 90210. But then again I guess we'll all find out tonight.

However, Ms. Jennie Garth, our beloved Kelly, well that's another story. I always thought she was beautiful, and I remember everyone in elementary school wanted to be like her, but recent pictures of her look a little different. On Awful Plastic Surgery's website Jennie has an extremely smooth forehead and her eyes seem to be pulled open with a little brow elevation. This look may be accredited to Botox, or maybe even a upper and lower lid blepharoplasty (eyelid lift). She may have had some fillers in her laugh lines like Juvederm or Restylane, and she takes great care of the porcelain skin (perhaps a chemical peel in the past?). It doesn't look like she really went overboard, I'll give her that much but I would think at 36 you'd have at least one wrinkle. Can't wait for that season premiere!

Designer Bags Getting the Ultimate Star Treatment with Botox!

Given that it's Fashion week in New York City this week, I thought this story was timely!

Mauro Orietta Carella, a former medical student turned handbag designer, came up with the idea of injecting A-list handbags with the kind of chemicals normally injected into A-list faces. (Source: Yorkshire Evening Post)

The Italian has become famous in fashion circles for giving stars like Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria handbags as soft, supple and as lovingly tended as their own faces.

The bags are made from exotic skins like python and crocodile which are suede-lined and then injected with silicone and resin fillers to keep them flexible and crease-free. The plump, supple and smooth appearance of the leathers has earned them the appropriate name, "Botox bags".

Mauro said: "Skins like this can become hard and can dry and flake over time so I decided to treat them this way to keep them at their best forever. I was a medical student for many years and my interest was always in the skin, so I applied the knowledge I learned then to my new work."I realized accidentally the similar characteristics between human skin and crocodile skin. The crucial problem exists of how to maintain the skin's hydration and create softness."I injected skins with a mixture of silicone and resin and ten hours later the change was astonishing. My formula puts an end to stiff shiny crocodile bags and creates something soft and strong."

Mauro's handbags, made for the company Zagliani where he works as creative director, first appeared two years ago and instantly revived interest in the Italian label. From being a brand known for its classic handbags made from luxury animal skins it has became a high-fashion favorite with eager customers joining waiting lists to buy Mauro�s designs. He works in Italy with master craftsmen but his bags are now being sold by Harvey Nichols in Leeds and Mauro has visited the city to launch the range.

He said: "I am happy that my bags are being used by celebrities but I get even more satisfaction seeing women who are not famous using them. Women have such busy lives with so many aspects to them, and they always have to try to look good and be organized. If I can help with that then I am very happy."

His most famous design is the Puffa bag, which sells for �1,575 in Harvey Nichols.
The designer lives in Milan but was educated in Japan. He said: "I like to create timeless pieces and I think this is probably a Japanese influence. Customers often have to wait for my bags but they understand when I explain why. "The skins are a natural product and the number of skins we can buy is carefully controlled. It is natural for humans to use animal skins but we have to make sure the balance of nature is preserved."

Mauro likes to mix his designs with bright colors and produces bags in colors including gold, silver and electric blue. "People think they don't want color but then they see the metallic bags and end up ordering one of them," he said.

Now I don�t know if I will ever be one of the "lucky ones" to own a bag like this, let alone touch one, but if I win the lottery I would definitely consider purchasing one!
