Posh Spice Downsizes

Gone are the days of slinky black dresses and crazy animal print.... in are the Christian Louboutins, Armani and chic LBD's. It's been speculated that Posh Spice has been in hiding for the past couple of days because she is recovering from a breast implant exchange. US Weekly reports that Posh has "downsized" from her 34 DD's to a more conservative 34 B cup. Sources claim she wants to shed her old image and reinvent herself once again. Implant exchange for size change is not all that uncommon. Many women undergo breast augmentation before bearing any children, and the weight of the implants, hormonal shifts, and weight fluctuations can make the breast skin stretch and sag over time. Of course if the patient has had children that can also contribute to the sagginess. Posh may just want to look a bit smaller along the bustline after having had children and lived the fabulous life for so many years.

Since forming part of the Spice Girls, she actually seems to have undergone a major transformation. It has been speculated she has lost approximately 20-25 lbs, had possible buccal fat pad removal to achieve a more sculpted face, as well as a rhinoplasty to refine her nose, injectibles to her lips, a mini browlift or Botox to help arch her brows, and of course breast augmentation. But alas, this is just speculation...hey, it could also be she is just one happy mother and wife to the world's most sexiest man!

The World's King of Pop, 1958-2009

The world was deeply saddened yesterday at the news of the sudden and heartbreaking death of superstar, Michael Jackson. Jackson was well known worldwide for many things, but he will always be remembered as one of the most talented musician and entertainers to ever walk the planet. I always remember my mother-in-law telling me she remembered where she was when she found out Elvis had died, and I know for my generation these same type of stories will be associated with Michael.

Michael Jackson, started his music career at a very young age as the cute and youngest member of the Jackson 5. From the moment he stepped on the scene, he stole America's heart. To this day his 1982 album Thriller is the world's best selling album of all time, and his cumulative album sales reach upwards of 61 million. He not only changed the face of pop music in the 70's, 80's, and 90's, but he also introduced memorable moves in dance. No one will ever forget his scene stealing "moon walk" at the 1983 MTV video music awards. In addition to dance, Jackson, had a very strong fashion point of view. I know all of my friends in the 80's wore zippered parachute pants, white socks with black penny loafers, and sequined gloves!! Although, in his later years he was plagued with everything from legal to money troubles, there is no doubt that his legacy will be one rich with many musical accomplishments. At the time of his death, Jackson, was putting in long rigorous hours with his team of dancers for one of the biggest come backs of his career. He was scheduled to perform over 50 concerts at London's renowned O2 theater.

Mr. Jackson was also no stranger to plastic surgery. Over the years reps from his camp have never confirmed or denied the star going under the knife. I would say the most obvious would be the multiple rhinoplasty attempts. I know at one point experts in the plastic surgery field were very concerned his nose could completely cave in. It has been rumored that Jackson has also had cheek implants, chin implants, face and eye lift, and multiple injections. The pop star also suffered the skin disease vitiligo and lupus. Many have speculated he used strong skin bleaching treatments to try to even out his skin pigmentation leaving the star with very pale white skin.

Michael Jackson will be greatly missed. I am extrememly sad that we will never get the oportunity to see the come back he had been planning. I know his musical legacy will continue to push boundries and inspire artists for generations to come. Our thoughts go out to his family and children in what is a very difficult time.

Confessions of a Boob Job Recipient

Last week when reading US Weekly, I came across an article that featured celebs who have confessed to breast surgery. Brooke Hogan, daughter of
the infamous Hulk Hogan
was one of the celebs featured. She confessed she underwent breast augmentation to
Howard Stern. She apparently wanted them "more round." Mission accomplished!

Another celeb who has admitted to a breast lift in the article was NYC Housewife Bethenny Frankel. I haven't treated her, but by the looks of the picture below, which I remember from that episode, it appears that she got breast implants. This look is typical of breast implants, possibly placed in the subglandular location. This means they are under her tissues and not her pectoralis muscle. Who agrees?

Oh Baby!!!

Making babies is starting to like an increasing trend in Hollywood now a days! Its taking the saying "Make love not war " to whole different level. For example, just one year after giving birth to son Levi, the beautiful Camilla Alves and awesomely tan Matthew McConaughey are once again expecting child #2. McConaughey made the announcement on his website, writing " We have more blessed news to celebrate this Father's Day that [will] make this time next year double the fun. Levi is going to be a big brother... Yeah, we pulled off the greatest miracle in the world one more time, Camila and I are expecting our second child, bringing more life into the world, making more to live for" (Source: People Magazine). However, what Camilla "pulled off" last time with baby Levi was returning to her pre-baby bod within weeks! Pictures surfaced everywhere showing Camilla with a flatter belly and a teeny tiny waist . Could it be elastic skin or maybe the magical work of a surgeon's scalpel? I think it could be good genes and a lot of coco butter + crunches (a lotttt of crunches). Patients need to wait at least 6 months after giving birth to consider a tummy tuck. For a breast lift/mastopexy the patient must wait 6-8 months after giving birth and must have stopped breast feeding for 3 months. However, the pictures of Camilla were taken only 3 weeks after childbirth soo yes she's blessed with elastic skin.

Another couple embracing parenthood is the statuesque Gisele Bndchen and the ever so cute Tom Brady. The couple recently wed twice this past spring, once in Los Angeles and once in Costa Rica where the supermodel has a home. According to People.com, Bndchen, 29 is indeed expecting her first child. Judging from her pre-baby body I don't think she will have any problem getting back in shape and hitting the beach, baby in tow!

Us Weekly's June 22, 2009 Issue

Recently I was browsing through this US Weekly's 6/22/09 Issue and found on page 12 some interesting facts about celebrities that have had plastic surgery-mainly tummy tucks. The issue features Kate Gosselin who we have disscussed here on the Celebrity Plastic Surgery Blog who may have had a tummy tuck due to her abnormally high belly button.
The issue also featured Patricia Heaton reporting that, " A 2000 tummy tuck paired with a belly button hernia left the actress 51, navel-less" (US Weekly Issue 749). This came to me as a surprise since I had never heard about this and am a huge fan of "Everybody Loves Raymond," as I continue to watch re-runs. I did some research and found that she had openly admitted to having breast reduction as well as a tummy tuck. (Makemeheal) According to Makemeheal, " Patricia had plastic surgery to combat the changes her body went through after giving birth to four sons. Patricia Heaton has spoken openly about her reasons for the plastic surgery, saying Vanity. I mean it, vanity. I had four babies and four C-sections, and my stomach looked like the map of the world. My breasts were hanging down to here from breast-feeding those babies and my nipples were like platters. I wanted to fit into the gowns that I finally got to wear. I had a breast reduction and a tummy-tuck and I feel fine about that and I feel fine about saying I did it. There is an awful lot of illusion in Hollywood, but its better to be honest if you can. Well, Bellybutton or no bellybutton Heaton is still talented and beautiful woman!

Mary Murphy's Hot Tamale Train is Heading to Botox-Ville!

For those of you who are fellow fans of the Fox show So You Think You Can Dance, you know who Mary Murphy is and her "Hot Tamale Train." Mary Murphy, one of the show's judges, is know for her obnoxious and hilarious laugh, screams and overall loudness on the show. Personally, I used to find her annoying, but now she is a source of constant entertainment! Even The Soup has found humor in her laugh and coined the "Mary Murphy Wake-Up Call."

Well, on last week's show, Cat Deely, the host, asked Mary for her opinion on one of the dances. I believe Cat said something to the effect of, "Mary, give us an eyebrow and let us know what you thought...." Mary then responded with, "I can't, I have too much Botox!" I laughed out loud because I always think about how she looks as though she gets Botox. She is so animated, yet she doesn't have a wrinkle on her face. It's as if her face doesn't move. She is a very accredited judge and world-class dance instructor....and my bi-weekly source of entertainment!

The Case of Tennis Star Simona Halep: Why do Women Seek Breast Reduction Surgery?

A London press release on May 29th went like this: "Junior French Open champ Simona Halep is set to undergo a surgery to reduce her 34DD boobs. The 17-year-old feels they are a disadvantage and has vowed to have a reduction later this year. "The breasts make me uncomfortable when I play, the Sun quoted her as saying."It''s the weight that troubles me - my ability to react quickly," she added. However, fans of the Romanian tennis player didnt seem too happy with her decision. They flocked to sign an online petition: Save Simona Halep Boobs. One stormed: "It will be a crime against nature."

Simona Halep, as you may or may not know, is from Romania and is a budding Junior tennis player. She is ranked #258 in the world. She won the Junior French Open tennis tournament in 2008, and although not yet fully developed as a professional, she reached the second round of the qualifiers for the Senior French Open in 2009. In May 2009 she received widespread media attention all over the world for expressing her desire to go through breast reduction surgery in order to perform better on the tennis court. I found it surprising to read on blogs and sports pages online how much fans and readers did not understand the purpose and benefit of breast reduction surgery. Comments ranged from disgust to outrage to frank misunderstanding of what the indications and outcomes are for breast reduction surgery.

Constant back and neck pain, gouges in your shoulders from bra straps, difficulty with clothing fit, and deteriorating posture and an inability to participate in certain activities rank among the common complaints of women with large breasts. Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) may help relieve these symptoms. As technology advances, more women are seeking consultations from plastic surgeons to discuss options for adjusting their breast sizes to a healthier and more comfortable level. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 104,000 breast reduction surgeries were performed in 2006. Breast reduction is often considered a medically necessary treatment due to its interference with the activities of daily life and physical symptoms, so third party payors and referrals from primary care physicians are often involved.

So, what are the indications for breast reduction surgery?
Breast reduction surgery is for women who have large breasts and want to resolve one or more of the following associated problems:
Chronic back, neck and shoulder pain
Poor posture
Skin rash under the breasts
Deep grooves in the shoulders from bra strap pressure
Restricted levels of activity
Low self-esteem
Difficulty wearing or fitting into certain bras and clothing

Women can have breast reduction surgery at any age, but it's generally advisable to wait until you're at least age 17 or 18, by which time your breasts are likely to be fully developed. However, sometimes surgery is performed in teens who suffer significant emotional and psychological effects of having too-large breasts (called juvenile breast hypertrophy). Patients are often advised that if they want children and wish to breastfeed, they may consider postponing breast reduction surgery until afterwards. Changes to breast tissue during pregnancy could alter your surgical results. Also, after the surgery, breast-feeding may be difficult.

As you can see in the above photo, in Simona Halep's case, it is clear that her very large breasts are causing a functional interference with her tennis game. Her swing is somewhat impeded by what is in the way, and she just can't move as quickly with her figure as it is now. There is no doubt that Halep's game will improve after a reduction of her breasts, and likely make her able to swing more quickly and react on the court faster. This is not for vanity, it is for comfort and to function in a more effective manner.

Melissa Gilbert - Little House, Little Plastic Surgery

You may remember Melissa Gilbert from Little House on the Prairie, which aired from 1974 to 1983. In this series, Gilbert played Laura aka ""Half Pint." Now, at age 45, she is featured in People Magazine talking about her new memoir. In the article she admits to undergoing two rhinoplasty procedures. In the article she states that her nose, "got wider and flatter and had a bump" as she grew up. She underwent her first rhinoplasty after turning 18 to remedy this and again at age 20 to fix her "puggy" tip. She is not shy to admit she has undergone these two procedures and by looking at her photos, it does appear that the bridge of her nose is narrower and the tip of her nose has been refined. She has aged very gracefully and I don't think anyone still calls her "Half Pint!"

Rockin' rhinoplasty?

Bret Michaels, lead singer of the 80s metal band Poison and star of VH1 reality show Rock of Love, made headlines today after being struck in the head by a descending set piece following his performance at last nights Tony Awards. According to his rep, the singer fractured his nose and needed stitches in his lip. A Tonys spokeswoman confirmed the accident and explained Bret had missed his mark on stage.

Bret is no stranger to accidents. In 1994 he was in a nearly fatal car crash that left him with a broken nose, jaw, ribs, fingers and 4 missing teeth. Many sources that have reported on his alleged plastic surgery cite this as the primary reason he went under the knife. Others speculate he had cosmetic procedures such as fat grafting, cheek implants and even a facelift to restore a more youthful appearance.

Its definitely possible Bret had rhinoplasty, as the bridge of his nose looks slightly more raised in recent photos. In addition, his cheeks have retained fullness that is not consistent with his age so fillers or cheek implants may have been used. I also noticed his chin has a different appearance and no longer looks cleft, which may be the result of a facelift or chin implant.

As the star of a show well known for having contestants who have had significant work done (See: Daisy of Love), we wonder if this latest bit of news will lead to anything more. Either way, Bret Michael still rocks the hearts of thousands of fans across the country and we wish him a speedy recovery from his recent mishap.

With Denise Third Times A Charm!!!

Actress Denise Richards, who has become more famous for her nasty divorce from Charlie Sheen than acting, has a new season of her reality show "It's Complicated" on E!. So, she has been making the publicity rounds promoting her show. Denise was on Howard Stern's SIRIUS radio show on Thursday when she admitted to having breast augmentation in the past. US weekly reported that when asked if her breasts were "natural", she simply stated, "on the outside...yes...on the inside...not so much". I thought that was HILARIOUS!!! So many actresses deny having the surgery and I thought her answer was witty and refreshing. Denise went on to say that she is happy with the results, but it wasn't always the case. The actress had to undergo three surgeries with three doctors to get it right. At 19 the first surgery left the reality star with breasts that were too big for her frame. At a later date the actress tried to fix the problem and was convinced by a second doctor to go bigger!! The tiny Richards ended up with size D breasts. Finally, she was able to go with a smaller more natural implant and she is pleased with the end results. I think she looks fabulous....especially after having two babies!!!

I think this is a great lesson on how important it is to consider your body frame when making the decision on what size implants you choose. Like in other areas we as women get stuck on numbers....in this case cup size. Spend the time with your doctor to discuss what is best for your body. Try not to get tripped up on the cup size!!

A new look gone bad

Last week I came across the National Enquirer Plastic Surgery issue and was surprised to see some unfamiliar faces. Most of the stars we have already heard of or talked about were in the issue such as Tara Reid and Kathy Griffin, but one star that stood out was Daryl Hannah. Daryl Hannah started her career early in life by staring in the movie "Splash" which came out in 1984, where she stared as a mermaid next to Tom Hanks who played a normal human being. Hannah has also been in such great movies such as Roxanne and Kill Bill but where is she now? Now that Hannah has turned 48, it seems as though she has morphed her face into something very different and is completely unrecognizable! In the past Hannah has said that she would not go under the knife for her appearance, but by the looks of her recent photographs I think she may have gone under the needle and possible changed her views about plastic surgery. Hannah is now sporting a swollen or over-injected facial features. Rumors about what Hannah may got done range "from extensive fat grafting and lip injections to eye lid surgery" (Stars) I think Hannah had some some seriously bad work which is such a shame because she has always been a beautiful woman. Back in April, Dr. Walden told Makemeheal that Darryl Hannah has the appearance of having undergone to many injectable procedures. Her cheeks and lips look as if soft-tissue fillers have been injected to over-plump them, and her forehead and area around the eyes look like theyve been Botoxed. In time, Hannah's appearance should improve as long as she did not get any permanent fillers injected. I wish the best for Daryl Hannah!

Who Won the Bikini War?

Now, we all know "bikini girl" from American Idol has had some work done since her last appearance on the show, but how did Kara Dioguardi get that body? I definitely think she won the competition in singing and in looks!

Speaking of American Idol, how about Kellie Pickler. Doesn't look like bikini girl is the only one making multiple American Idol appearances that had some new "assets" to show off. Back in 2006, Kellie Pickler was a memorable contestant. Those who are American Idol fans should remember her as the quirky, bubbly, blond country girl from North Carolina. In 2007, the show brought her back to perform a song from her album. Not only was she debuting a new song, she was also debuting her new bigger breasts! Recently she was photographed at New York Fashion Week, looking refreshed and possibly with the effects

of Botox. She has very nice, wrinkle-free skin with an arched brow that can be due to Botox injections.

Hot Mama!

Kate Gosselin from TLC's Jon & Kate Plus Eight shows off her flab-free body (plus itsy bitsy bikini) on North Carolina's Bald Head Island. According to US Magazine she was there vacationing with her kids and camera crew (sans husband Jon). Lately, Jon and Kate have been embroiled in rumors of infidelity, divorce and breaking child labor laws and have been sprawled all over magazine covers as they either vacation by themselves or sit in awkward and uncomfortable interviews. As bad as the situation is at the moment I have to give props to Kate for taking care of herself as well as her kids. The woman is raising a set of twins and sextuplets AND promoting a book! I mean, your living your most private moments on TV with millions and millions of strangers, the least TLC can do is pick up the tab for a tummy tuck. She already had a C-section scar from her sextuplets, why not put it to good use?? And by the looks of the picture above she's not afraid of showing her scars. Hey, at least if her marriage doesn't hold up, hopefully her tummy will.
