A Dark Reality

Unfortunately this is not a very uplifting blog post, but one I thought was important to do. I am sure by now you have read or heard on the news about the Playboy model Jasmine Fiore's tragic death. The story is that Ryan Jenkins, her "reality star" husband of 5 months, murdered and dismembered her body. (He is a former contestant on Megan Wants a Millionaire and on the likely-to-be-un-aired I Love Money 3.) Before disposing of the suitcase that contained her body, he removed all her teeth and fingers leaving her unidentifiable. Little did he know that breast implants all come with their own serial and tracking number. When the autopsy was done the coroner only had to call the manufacturer to identify Ms. Fiore. Soon after Ms. Fiore was identified, Jenkins was found in a hotel in Vancouver, BC and had hung himself.

The most terrible part of this story is that reports show that Jasmine filed a domestic violence charge in June....only two months ago! When I read that, it just broke my heart. I think this story is a reminder to us all that violence is not ok in any shape or form. If you feel like you are being violated physically, mentally, or both get help. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, or an indication of failure. If you need assistance in any way, look to friends and family to help. There is help out there....you just have to ask!

T-Mobile Model and Plastic Surgery

So today, I thought to myself, who should I blog about? After searching the web, I found Catherine Zeta-Jones. She is my favorite actress, I find her to be so unbelievably beautiful and talented! How can you not love her? Anyway, I looked up to see what work she's had done and it appears as though she has had a rhinoplasty and is only rumored to have had breast augmentation as well as eyelid surgery and cosmetic dentistry. One source wrote, "Approaching 40, Catherine Zeta-Jones also has a wrinkle-free face, which leads some to suspect that she dabbles in Botox injections and chemical peels." This source also noted that "Catherine Zeta-Jones uses the Wellbox Cellulite & Anti-Wrinkle Home Device, which is a major hit with celebrities seeking to reduce fat and cellulite, as well as diminish facial lines and wrinkles."
(Source:educationmakemeheal) Also, recently the tabloids have been shining the light on Catherine because it appears that she has been slimming down her entire body-causing others to think that she may have had liposuction. However, who's to say that she's not just losing weight from diet and exercise?

On the rumor about breast augmentation, I searched through various pictures of Zeta-Jones thought she may not have had augmentation unless she did before the start of her career--but then I came upon this photo. It appears that she may have had breast augmentation and I loved reading the rumors about her breast implants having been purchased by her handsome hubby, Michael Douglas (all unconfirmed!).
In any case, she is a natural beauty who is talented with staying power.

Why Do Women Decide to Get Breast Implants?

In this video featured on The Plastic Surgery Channel, Dr. Walden discusses the results she found from a survey of her patients that revealed why women decide to undergo breast augmentation and how they get their information about the procedure and doctor. She is quoted as saying, "It wasnt because of a spouse or a significant other. It wasnt because a family member pressured them to. It was just because they wanted to make themselves look and feel as good on the outside as they did on the inside.

This confirms previous research on the topic that many women independently and thoughtfully seek this procedure to look and feel better about themselves, as they may not be pleased with the shape, size or asymmetry of their breasts. The survey was conducted over a period of 2.5 years and surveyed over 100 patients who underwent breast augmentation in her practice. Co-authors of the study include Sarah Shrader, RN, BSN, MHA, and Georgia Panagopoulis, PhD.

When is the Right Time to Get Botox?

Botox has become a household name as a cosmetic treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face caused by facial muscle contraction. The on label use for Botox is for injection of the lines, or the "11", between the brows. Off label uses include for the fine lines emanating from the lateral corners of the eyes ("crow's feet"), and the furrows of the head caused by frontalis muscle contraction. Those are the transverse lines that you see when someone raises their brow or looks surprised. Also, Dysport is a competing product that is very similar to Botox and was recently approved by the FDA for use.

Lately there has been a lot of buzz about the average age of women (and men to a lesser extent) seeking Botox for the treatment of wrinkles. In the video below, I describe how and why younger women would seek Botox, when it would or would not be indicated, and what the difference is between soft tissue fillers (substances that are used to provide volume in deflated areas of the face) and Botox, a temporary and selective muscle paralytic. This video can be found on the Plastic Surgery Channel (based in Dallas, TX), an awesome source of information about cosmetic surgery procedures as well as a quality source of news on the topic of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

In the video, I explain that fine superficial lines that come from age, sun exposure, and smoking are best treated with resurfacing agents like chemical peels or laser...for young 'uns I would recommend a light peel like alpha-hydroxy acid or glycolic acid over one of the more aggressive peels like TCA or phenol (and prevention by staying out of the sun and not smoking). The thing to remember about chemical peels is that afterwards, redness and peeling can occur for up to two to three weeks, and sunblock and/or sun avoidance is an absolute must to avoid pigmentation problems as your face heals!

Keeping up with Kim

Did you watch the Teen Choice Awards this week?? I will admit I did not, but I did watch the highlights the next day online of Robert Pattinson...Hottie McHot. Anyway, back on subject....I did however enjoy looking at all the red carpet pictures of the event. I really love events like these....young, hip, and trendy. The stars are a little less formal and always try to have a little fun. Well, as I was looking over the pictures, I noticed a picture of Kim Kardashian. Let me rephrase that.....I passed over a picture of Kim because I didn't recognize her AT ALL!!! Later I was on a different celeb gossip page and there was a blurb about Kim's new hair color and it was the same picture from before. Literally my jaw hit the floor. I could not believe it was her. I immediately went to google images and looked at more pictures of her from the red carpet. Her face looks completely different! It was just astounding. If you haven't seen the new look you should browse some of the pictures from the award show. Kim has dyed her brunette tresses a honey blond and was extremely, extremely tan. I know people change their hair color often to spice things up, but this was amazing how it changed her entire facial features. It was also apparent that she was freshly injected for the evening. Her skin was flawless. It just goes to show that something as simple as hair color can change everything! We have covered on this blog all the many rumored procedures Ms. Kardashian has undergone and now we can add this to the list! I know it is not plastic surgery to change your hair color, but this was a TRUE transformation that I had to blog about!!! ;) I prefer her a brunette, but Kim is such a beautiful woman I highly doubt there is much she can't pull off!! I guess we will see if blonds do have more fun!!

Happy Friday!!

Jewel's Jewels!

Jewel has come to my attention lately as having implants that may not fit her body dimensions. As seen on MakeMeHeal.com, Dr. Walden mentions It looks like she had breast augmentation with possible subglandular placements of the implants. It seems like her breast diameter/pocket is wider than the diameter of her implants therefore you can tell where her implants end and her real breast tissue starts.

Dr. Aston also commented in regards to Jewel on MakeMeHeal saying, It appears that singer Jewels breast implants are too small in diameter for the width of her breast. Also, her implants are visible under her skin, which suggests that her implants are not beneath the pectoral muscle. If she had a revision with better implant selection and they were placed under the muscle it would give her a better result.

In any case, it is important to take into consideration body dimensions like base diameter and skin pinch thickness for breast augmentation to look natural. As well, breast implant size is a part of the equation as implants can be too small or too large for a person's individual body type.

Kate plus 11

Kate from Jon and Kate plus 8 has had various plastic surgery procedures including a tummy tuck and possible breast augmentation. Personally, I think she is a great looking mom, however one thing I think she would benefit greatly from is Botox between her brows. As you can see in the above photo she has a very common distribution of wrinkles sometimes referred to as the "number 11". With a little Botox to relax the muscles that create such lines she could be back to Kate plus 8!

The REAL Housewives of Atlanta are Back!!!

On Thursday, July 30th, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" kicked off the new season with a bang! The housewives welcomed a new member, former Xscape band member and grammy-winning singer/songwriter, Kandi Burruss and of course the show wouldn't be complete without drama from housewife, Kim Zolciak. From her suitor and mystery man, Big Poppa, to her drama with Nenee and her close to near death experience with cancer, wherever she goes, drama follows! She is best known for her big blonde hair, if you watched last season we all found out it was a wig, Big Poppa (which will hopefully make a cameo this season) and her foundness in all things gold, shiny, and new. And this housewife is very open about her beauty routine, last season she took another housewife, Sheree Whitfield to get Botox. Although receiving Botox injections around the eyes for smile lines, the glabella, or on the forehead is very common, most people made a big deal out of it because Kim claimed to be 29 at the time of the show and the injection. I recently read an article in Marie Claire that stated that research now show that many younger women, even in their late twenties, are starting young and getting Botox treatments. The reason is because Botox works by reducing the activity of the muscles that can cause wrinkles in the skin. After years of wrinkling and crinkling, the facial lines can become more permanent especially true for people who are very animated with their facial expressions. Botox can temporarily reduce these wrinkles and as many young women hope, help prevent new wrinkles from forming.

Saved by the Botox?

Whoa!! Where is Mr. Belding when you need him!!! Actress, and Saved By the Bell alumni, Lark Voorhies was seen very recently looking a bit "surprised" and "stretched". I don't know if you caught the most recent People magazine cover, but they just did a really fun spread on the stars from the 90's sitcom Saved By the Bell. I can't believe it has been 20 years since Bayside's first school bell rang on national television. The article was really fun and kind of a "where are they now" look into the now adults lives. I remember thinking as I was thumbing through the article (one plus about working for a doctor....GREAT magazines!!) was that they all looked really great. The photos were done in a very "yearbook" style which I thought was hilarious and genius all at the same time! What great sports they all were! Anyway, it was a fun article and I thought nothing of it until I was looking through the gossip sites this morning to find a blog topic and I came across these very recent pictures of "little Lisa Turtle". It appears that the star has had some work done since the breaking of the People magazine cover. The first and most obvious assumption would be the possible use of Botox!! That surprised look says it all. It also appears that at some point the star has undergone rhinoplasty. I might be reaching a little bit with this one, but her skin looks pulled tight across the eyes and cheeks, although it could be a poor camera angle and strange facial expression. The blogger that posted these pictures said she looked as if she was turning into Latoya Jackson. I think that might be a little harsh, but I agree that it is not the best look for her. The makeup she is wearing is also too light for her skin and gives her a somewhat "ashen" appearance. Undereye highlight can be a ladies BEST friend, but it is important to get the shade right and not look white under the eyes. I am hoping that these were just bad paparazzi photos, and that she really looks more like the photos in the magazine!

Taking a look at Marilyn Monroe

After going through quite a few sites, I had my heart set on blogging about Marilyn Monroe. To my recollection, we have not discussed her here, and afterall she was one of the greatest female stars of our time. Now while I was reading, I noticed that rumors floated around that she may have had breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, and perhaps even jaw surgery. One thing we know for certain, is that Monroe did have a rhinoplasty. According to one source, she went under the knife in 1946, once she had signed a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox Studios. Apparently, an agent suggested she change her name. And "Norma" changed her name to Marilyn, dyed her hair and went for rhinoplasty. The nose job done on Marilyn is one of the greatest you will ever see, the surgeon was able to change her bulky-wide nose into a feminine and more defined nose. (Source: celebrityplasticpics) According to another source, Marilyn did have her chin perfected (details unknown) in 1950. The MarilynMonroePages also tell us that she had an orthodontist fix her front teeth which slightly protruded.
Regardless of the rumors, one thing is for sure, Marilyn Monroe was a true beauty and was a stunning and talented woman.
