Fourth Quarter Dampens Strong Year for Sotheby's

Sotheby's said Wednesday that fourth quarter net income declined 25.7 percent, year-over-year, to $71.5 million, largely due to an 11 percent decline in auction and related revenue to $274.9 million. Auction sales fell 5 percent to $85.2 million during the period, ended Dec. 31, 2011, primarily due to a 5 percent decline in net auction sales over the period

Sun-Drop Sells for a Record-Breaking $12.3 Million
The 110.03-carat Sun-Drop Diamond fetched $12.3 million Tuesday at Sotheby’s Sale of Magnificent Jewels in Geneva.The auction house said the price paid for what is considered to be the largest known pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond in the world set a world auction record for yellow diamonds.
The previous record for a yellow diamond was achieved by “The Vivid Yellow,” a 32.77-carat

Patek Chrono Sells for $815,000 at Sotheby’s Geneva Auction
A Patek Philippe, ref. 2499, 18k yellow gold perpetual calendar chronograph watch sold for $815,637 Sunday during Sotheby’s Important Watches sale in Geneva. It was sold to a private U.S. collector.
All totaled, the auction held at the Hôtel Beau-Rivage took in $8.75 million, with 69 percent of the 280 lots offered sold by lot and 73 percent sold by value.
