Fashion's Night Out Chicago

I'm way behind in posting, so you're getting a post dump today in an attempt to quickly catch up so I can bring you Emmys red carpet coverage starting tomorrow.

A bit over a week ago, I was invited to Saks' Fashions's Night Out event. It was definitely a bigger party, and louder party, than the Brian Atwood event that morning.

I dragged my friend Niki along.

But I'm sure the free champagne at least was worth it

Saks had models wearing Brian Atwood shoes

even the ostrich-feather "it" shoe for fall. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I won't be wearing these this fall, or ever really.

We perused the shoes

and did some great people watching

Why didn't I wear my fascinator?

Then we got bored pretty quickly with Saks and moved along to the newly opened TopShop

It's gigantic and definitely worth a visit

Their theme for fall seemed to be "sequins"

Which is fine because I oddly have been having a hankering for sequins myself. Not that I bought anything because the line was ridiculously long.

This was me attempting to take a pic of the makeover stations they had going on for the public, but silly people stepped in my way. Boo!

From there we went to Neiman's where these lovely people were standing inside

and this fortune teller was sitting inside.

Sorry, Saks, but Neiman's definitely had you beat in the entertainment department. And hands down killed it in the food department. There were like 6 food and drink stations on each of their 4 floors.

But forget the food and drinks and even the fortune teller, Niki and I were very entertained by the hats.

I made Niki model some of the hats for you

But then I just had to try this one, for realsies, not for jokesies. I was in love. And then I saw it was made by Philip Treacy, aka milliner extraordinaire for the Royal Wedding. Ooo, I want.
How did y'all spend Fashion's Night Out?

Frugal Friday - Protect Your Face

The most precious part of your look is... your face! Proper skincare is imperative for keeping a healthy glow for years to come. No one wants to grow up and look like an old leather football. Gross! Keeping your skin protected is always within budget, especially with these items.

I never ever leave the house in summer without a hat. Wearing a hat has the added bonus of making your look effortlessly chic. I swear when walking around town, random strangers will stop me on the street to compliment me on my outfit. But I know it's really just the hat pulling it together! So grab a fedora, keep your face protected, and your look projected.

J. Crew, was $65, sale $29.99

Nordstrom, was $68, sale $44.90 @

Another MUST have item is sunblock. You should never ever leave the house without a little spf splashed on your face. Not even in winter. But adding another thing to your beauty regimen may get you feeling overwhelmed, so do what I do - a two-in-one spf/moisturizer. Keeps my skin glowy and moisturized and protects it from the sun at the same time. I recommend going at least SPF 30 to get a good layer of protection going.

Aveeno, $16.39

Bare Minerals, $28

Okay, this isn't under $50, but it's also TWENTY FOUR OUNCES of protection. Talk about a deal! Just a quick pump into your hand and you're off!

Supergoop, $68

Josie Maran, $14-$32

Philosophy, $38

Just because summer is winding down doesn't mean you should stop paying attention to your skin. Keep those faces protected!

Do I Look Like Kate Middleton Yet?

I may or may not be obsessed with headwear since the royal wedding. I mean, I always head a thing for it before, but now I reeeeeeally am obsessed. My latest style inspiration Kate Middleton has me thinking hats and fascinators. Which led to the following purchases:

Francesca's, $34

Now that's what I call sun protection!

Now for my super exciting purchase. Y'all, I have looked high and low and could NOT find a for realsies British-esque fascinator. None of this headband with feathers nonsense, I wanted something artistic and on the side of my head. And look what I found. I'm in heaven.

Charming Charlie, $14.97

So what do you think? Am I British yet?

Let's Get Nautical

For whatever reason, when the sun starts making a more regular appearance and the weather is warmer, all I want to do is dress like a sailor. Okay, not a sailor, but I really want to dress nautical. I have no idea why, but I have a very strong urge to indulge in blue and white, preferably in striped form.

Nothing hotter as the weather gets hotter than a navy and white striped top paired with some white skinny jeans. Mmmm... white skinny jeans.
