Boot love

I bought these Steven by Steve Madden boots yesterday even though they are kind of boring because the weather is changing and I really need a pair of flat black boots stat:
But it gave me a bit of boot fever and now I have my eye on some ridiculously expensive gorgeous boots.
Vera Wang Lavender:Burberry (kinda ridiculous, but I love them):Gucci:

Don't: Sneakers With Work Clothes

There is NO excuse, none none, for wearing tennis shoes with your work clothes. You're trying to look professional, and then, BAM, glaring white tennies staring at you, cutting you off at the ankle and making you look so sad and dumpy.

Instead, try a nice sandal, flat, or boot. You'll be comfy on your commute without sacrificing style.

RIP Winter Boots

When the snow comes down and leaves slushy puddles at every corner and the temps are in single digits, these are the boots I go to.

But after 2 winters of excessive use, and possibly from overstuffing with pants and socks, the zipper broke on one of them last night. I could have cried. I love them so much.

So rest in peace dear ugly UGG snow boots. You kept me warm when it seemed impossible. You kept me dry when I stepped into 10 inch slush puddles. I will miss you.

Reader Question: "I bought a cute denim jacket... now what?"

Hi EWP,

I stumbled across a fabulous sale at the Gap today and finally got myself a cute jean jacket to wear for the fall. My question is what do I wear it with? I don't want to be too matchy/matchy in the denim department. Can you give me some pointers???

Denim Diva

I must admit it's been years since I last wore a denim jacket. They really aren't my thing. But they can be cute with the right look.

But before we get to what to wear with your denim jacket, let's memorize the number one commandment of denim jacket wearing: Do NOT pair your jean jacket with a pair of jeans. I think it's called something like a farmer's suit or something, but nevermind what it's called, I just call it a major fashion faux pas.

Another thing about my preferences for jean jackets - I think they make a great spring/early summer jacket option and work well with a sundress. But we're in October, so make it a more fall-appropriate look with a darker wash.

Here are some denim-jacket pairing options for fall:

1) Pair with some pants/leggings. This is a nice casual look for fall. Try it with flats or boots. Just remember if you go with the leggings, be sure to wear a long enough top to cover your lady bits!
2) Pair with a cute fall skirt and tights. This look I'm especially loving. Nothing I love more than a nice tweed skirt. And you get to wear tights. *sigh* I love tights. Once again go with cute boots or flats or heels. So many options! This also depends on the color of your jacket. The darker the better. A lighter jacket may be too light to go with this tweed, and too light for cold weather. I love the shade and the cut of the jacket on this model.

3) Pair with a printed dress. I like that this dress is belted. I'd have to see it all together to know for sure it'd look cute, but this is the idea I have. Add tights and boots to make this a fall look.

4) Pair with a shirt dress. I saw this olive dress and just thought "fall." Wear with tights (of course) and some nice brown boots. A great look for fall.

And these two options I found online and loved the look they had going. A full getup for what I was saying. Of course these pics were for spring/summer (which is more my idea of denim jacket wearing) but change out the shoes to something fall-appropriate and you get the idea for a fall look.

Hope that helps!

Fashion's Night Out - the Outfit

These are the times I wish I had a full-length mirror. Or at least that my husband was around all day everyday in case I needed a photoshoot of myself :)

But, because I'm sure you were dying to know, I did manage to take some (pretty crappy) pics of myself dressed up for Fashion's Night Out. I was a little concerned how hot I could make myself since all my fave go-to hotness wardrobe items no longer fit, but I think I pulled myself together pretty cutely if I do say so myself. It was definitely a night to break out the Loubs or the Prada shoes, but for whatever reason I decided all I wanted to wear in the world were some tall boots. Nevermind that it was 80 out, it was September and gosh darn it, I was going to wear boots. Sorry, Loubs, I'll take you out some other time.

Wish I had a full shot for you, but this is the best you can get.
I am in love with this top. It's cute, it's soft. I need to buy it in every color.
Belt: Banana Republic
Earrings: I forgot, I know it's some brand I always see on celebs in US but I've totally forgotten, sad because I just bought them a couple weeks ago. I blame preggo brain.
Jeggings: Pea in the Pod
Yes, that's right. Jeggings. I'm a total jeggings convert.
Boots (not pictured, but I wish they were): Bandolino

I didn't take my camera to the event because I thought I'd look like a weirdo with a giant camera, but I wish I had. Everyone had cameras! And it would've been great to document the fashion show. Yes, there was a fashion show. Not the most exciting thing in the world, but it did spice up my Friday night. Luckily my friend Niki had her camera, I'll try to steal some pics from her and post them.

Now what will I wear tonight to meet Tim Gunn? (He's doing a book signing on Mich. Ave. tonight)
