Oscars 2012: Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman in vintage Christian Dior

I have a ridiculous soft spot for polka dots. I don't know why, but I'm kinda sorta obsessed with them. Just seeing the makes me so happy.  But still I wouldn't have said before Sunday that polka dots had a place on the Oscars red carpet.  And I would have been wrong.  Because this vintage gown is perfectly Oscars.  So screen starlet of days gone by.  I want this dress. Like now.

Golden Globes 2012: Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron in Christian Dior Couture

I was pretty sure I liked the look when I saw it from the front and it's fun '20s inspiration
but then I saw it from the side and I HATED it.  It looks like trashy mullet dress.  Short in the front and long in the back.  I don't approve.
But I am still wild about the hair and makeup.  You know I love a good headband.

Golden Globes 2012: Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis in Dior

I love Mila Kunis. I think she is stunning. I think she is super fun and funny.  And the look on her face is anything but those things. What is she doing???

Also, I'm pretty sure she wore that dress last year.  It's so boring and so already done.  I'm almost 500% positive I've seen it before.  SNORE!

Shopping In Paris - Oo La La

One of the things I was oh so excited about on our trip to Paris was not the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower, but the shopping.  Oh the shopping!  Every corner we turned was another fabulous store. We ran across three Chanels in one day. THREE.

There was a Dior that was an entire city block. It was all Dior in all directions, including a baby Dior! Sadly, BabyWP didn't get any presents from baby Dior.

We perused the displays at Moschino.

In our time in Paris we saw lines for three stores: 1) the Apple store, which has lines outside all over the globe, so I wasn't so surprised.
2) Louis Vuitton

And while it isn't exactly my thing, I guess I can see the draw of this ginormous Louis Vuitton store. I was only slightly tempted to yell at the people "Why are you waiting in line for this???!"
The other line (which I had a picture of but has somehow disappeared from this post) was... wait for it...
ABERCROMBIE & FITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The Paris Abercrombie had guards and a LINE.  A LINE. It was so ridiculous. I didn't understand. At all.
But in non-ridiculous store news, we did make a stop at the tres adorable baby store Petite Bateau.  BabyWP needed a Paris present (as did some other babies we know).
Now that we've done baby shopping, can we do me?  Pretty please?

We made a stop in Missoni, and I really must say that it is just NOT for me.  It's all so loud, and while I am for bold and vibrant, I'm not for Missoni's version of bold and vibrant. Their Target line was tame in comparison. [fyi, I was not a fan of the Target line because I thought it was too busy]  But a plus for them - their sales staff was SO NICE.  Ridiculously nice and fawny over us.

I was oddly excited about going to Bottega Veneta.  What can I say, I love shoes.
 Especially if they're this pretty.

From there we hopped into Lanvin.  Mr. EWP seemed to think all designers were the same, but he got over that idea when we went into Lanvin and a plain black skirt cost $2500.  Not all designers are created equal.
Mr. EWP's only store request was Hermes, where we discovered they sold horse bridles and riding gear. Who knew?

I don't like these shoes, but I thought they way Tod's arranged them was pretty so I took a picture.
As for me, I made a beeline to Yves Saint Laurent.
What did I buy? Well that shall remain a mystery... until my post on my Parisian purchases.

Emmys 2011: Minka Kelly

Minka Kelly in Dior
Wow, Minka Kelly must be taking her breakup from Derek Jeter. That can surely be the only reason to don such a sad grandma lace curtain of a dress. Poor thing. Don't worry, Minka, you'll find someone soon.

Sex and the City 2: Samantha Denies Plastic Surgery but Plugs Botox

I won a contest yesterday from MCPriceless and was lucky enough to be given two tickets to the WORLD PREMIERE of Sex and the City 2: Carrie On!

The movie was filled with fabulous clothes (lots of Halston Heritage and Dior) and a surprise performance by Liza Minnelli doing Single Ladies by Beyonce.

Specifically one interesting plotline was when the girls were at brunch and the character Samantha (played by the stunning Kim Cattrell) said she hadnt had any plastic surgery procedures done and was all natural, but then later in the film admitted to having used Botox.

Catrell has regularly admitted in the press that she uses Botox, and after seeing her in person, I also think she has gotten a chemical peel, as her skin is flawless.

I wont spoil anymore for you! Im sure you will love it! Sex and the City 2 opens in theaters on Thursday, May 27, 2010, be sure to order your tickets in advance from Fandango as it will surely sell out!

Met Gala 2010: Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard in a silver sequin Dior Haute Couture gown, along with Dior shoes and clutch.

Marion Cotillard continues her double-take inducing propensity to look like Kristen Stewart on the red carpet, albeit a much more attractive and less slouchy version of Kristen Stewart.

But aside from looking like the awkward starlet, this dress is dazzling. And I love the hair and makeup.

Things I Saw While Shopping

I seem to get more interest in my posts when I somehow make it in the photos. So I'll be doing that more.

This photo doesn't have me in it. Well, just my drool.

Seriously, how hot are these cage boot sandals? YUM!
Dior, $990

And then I saw bib necklaces and had to try them on because I'm obsessed.

Tasha, $48

Tasha, $48

The first one was like plastic buttons but super fun on. The second one was kinda meh.
Just wanted to share :)

EWP Goes to the Fanciest Mall Ever

No vacay anywhere is complete without a day of shopping. It's been my rule since ever since I can remember. With three daughters and years of shopping trips, my dad can't set foot in a mall without breaking out in hives. But now the tradition has been passed on to Mr. EWP and he's actually doing quite well with it. He did the shopping research all on his own. He googled "Christian Louboutin" and "Chloe" and found some places to shop. I was seriously impressed that A) that he did the shopping planning on his own, and B) that he even knew what Chloe was. AND he said I could buy anything I wanted. Anything. I was very excited.

First stop: The Miami Design District. I was really excited. I always think other big cities have something fun like Michigan Ave. where it's just lines of nice shops and people wandering in and out.Well, um, the Miami Design District was not like that. It was deserted, in the middle of a gorgeous Saturday! And the whole area was kind of warehousey and not cute. There'd be one nice store I'd consider shopping in, and then a bunch of faucet and plumbing stores. It was SO WEIRD.

But they did have this store. My mecca. My home. I love you, Christian!

I was hoping to try on these shoes that I'd been coveting for a while, but they didn't carry them.

But they did have these adorably Parisian be-bowed, polka-dotted heels.
Funny story. I tried these on and Mr. EWP goes, "the heel's kinda low" and the saleswoman balks and goes, "they're four inches!" hahahhaha. I guess I've conditioned him to really ridiculous heel heights. I was wearing 6 inchers this day.

As cute as I thought they were, and as much as I could see me spending the whole summer in them, I just didn't think they were as cute as the piped canvas mary jane peep-toes. So I said goodbye.

From there we wandered over to Marni where I learned a very important lesson: never ever go to a store starved for customers wearing shoes from that store. OMG, once those 2 sales associates saw my shoes, they were tripping over themselves to show me everything in their store. Including stuff in the back they hadn't put out yet! They were all, we got a new collection, would you like to see it? No, I would not, people. You're scaring me.

It was high time to leave the Design District. So we crossed the bridge and headed over to what turned out to be the fanciest mall I've ever been to.
Sure I've been to nice shopping places, but none like this. It was discerning, it was high class.

Sure there were trees like other malls

And the fish were pretty cute.
But it was the stores that got me. There was no Banana or Club Monaco to be seen. The upstairs were the "lowly" stores - Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs. Things I can manage to swing in the budget.

But downstairs, wowee, downstairs was something else.

Hello, Carolina.

And Lanvin! I don't believe I've seen a Lanvin in person before. Not that I went in, I didn't feel worthy.
I was on a handbag hunt. I marched into Chloe looking for the bag I saw back in Chicago, but they didn't carry it. So we wandered to some other stores and looked at bags. Some had comical prices ($3,000??? WHAT?) and others were maybe buyable.

I wandered into Valentino to check out their rosette bags that I totally love. And the Valentino clerk totally did a once over of my bag and turned up his little nose at me. I wanted to be like, "It's Kate Spade, not Guess, dude!" And I wanted to inform him that he worked in a store. But I didn't.

For better or for worse, the people at Dior gave me much better service. Well, better as in they were attentive, not that they actually understood anything I was saying. I went in and said I wanted a plain, basic bag. I like my bags pretty basic. And the Dior woman took me to a bag that had bulky chains weaved through. In what world does "plan and basic" mean "bulky chains"?? And then, oh my and then, she brought me a bag with an across the body shoulder strap. I tried to smile politely, but I was really just trying not to vomit. Because one cannot vomit in Dior. But it was tough, people. It was tough. Across the body shoulder strap?? Who are these people?

So, even though I had the green light from my husband, nothing was purchased that day. Guess I really just love my Chicago shopping.

love this...

neutral shoe edition!
Dior:I am absolutely dying for the bow on the side of the shoe.
Jimmy Choo: Christian Louboutin: I'm usually not a fan of heels this thick but these are completely charming somehow.
